Our story

Three dogs. One concerned family.

Every great business has a story. Ours started with three dogs, a Labrador named Chewie, and a family that simply wanted to do better for their four-legged best friends.

It all started with Chewie

Like millions of dog owners, we used to feed our three dogs traditional kibble. It was convenient, affordable, and seemed to do the job.

But as Chewie, our oldest Labrador Retriever, started putting on a few extra pounds, we began taking a closer look at what we were feeding our dogs. We decided to make a change and switched to a premium fresh dog food delivery service.

And you know what? We loved it. Our dogs enjoyed their meals, and we felt good about what we were feeding them.

But there was one problem. The cost.

As much as we wanted to continue feeding our dogs high-quality fresh food, keeping three dogs on that diet simply wasn’t something our budget could sustain. We found ourselves facing a dilemma that so many pet parents understand: wanting to give our dogs the best possible nutrition without spending a small fortune to do it.

That’s when my wife reminded me of something.

“You know, you used to be a chef. Why don’t you just make their food yourself?”
Well, she had a point. And as it turns out, that one suggestion would change quite a bit more than what went into our dogs’ bowls.

From our kitchen to something bigger

With a background as a professional chef and a determination to do better for our dogs, I started researching homemade dog food. I studied ingredients, explored recipes, and eventually developed a couple of formulas that I thought would be great for our pups.

But that was just the beginning.

Around that time, our friend Shannon, owner of Lots of Licks Pet Treats, mentioned something interesting. Her customers were constantly asking if she knew where they could get quality dog food.

And suddenly, an idea that had started in our own kitchen began looking like something much bigger. What if we could take what we’d started for our own dogs and make it available to other families facing the same challenges? What if we could offer real, high-quality dog food without the premium price tag that so often comes with it?

That’s when Georgia Dawg Food Co. really began taking shape.

Doing it right, not just doing it

We quickly realized that making food for our own dogs and producing food for other people’s beloved pets were two very different responsibilities. And we weren’t about to cut corners.

We went back to the drawing board. We researched more. We learned more. And we completely overhauled those original recipes, focusing on developing better formulas with thoughtfully selected ingredients.

We weren’t interested in simply throwing meat and vegetables together and calling it dog food. We wanted to do things the right way.

Laboratory testing

Put through testing rather than taken on trust.

State approval

Registered with the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

AAFCO profiles

Formulated to meet the standard for a complete food.

It wasn’t the quickest or easiest road. But when you’re asking people to trust you with the health and well-being of their dogs, doing it right matters more than doing it fast.

Five years later, here we are

What started as an effort to help our own three dogs has grown into Georgia Dawg Food Co., a small business built around a simple belief:

Every dog deserves quality food, and every family deserves a realistic opportunity to provide it.

Today we offer five freeze-dried recipes made with recognizable, human-grade ingredients. Freeze drying preserves the natural flavor and nutritional qualities of what goes in, while making feeding time convenient for busy families.

We’re not a big corporation. And that’s the point.

We’re a small, Georgia-based business. We don’t have massive advertising campaigns, celebrity endorsements, or a corporate boardroom full of executives.

What we do have is a genuine love for dogs, years of hard work, and a commitment to producing food we’re proud to put our name on.

When you meet us at a festival, place an order through our website, or reach out with a question, you’re dealing with real people who care about what they’re doing. There’s nothing better than hearing that another pup has found a new favorite food.

Every order, every repeat customer, every subscription, and every happy dog means something to us. Because we remember exactly where this journey started.

With three dogs. One slightly overweight Labrador. And a wife who had a pretty darn good idea.

From our dogs to yours

Dogs have a way of becoming so much more than pets. They’re family. They’re our companions, our shadows, our best friends, and sometimes the reason we get out of bed in the morning.

They give us unconditional love, loyalty, and more happiness than we could ever repay. We think the least we can do is put a little extra care into what goes in their bowls.

Thank you for supporting Georgia Dawg Food Co., believing in small businesses, and giving us the opportunity to be part of your dog’s life. From our family to yours, thank you for being part of our story.
